Shawna G. Kuhn, DO
Dr. Shawna Kuhn attended Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) via a competitively earned full scholarship from the United States Air Force. Upon graduation and completion of her training she was honored to serve both active-duty military members and their dependents as a General Medical Officer. She considers it a privilege to have cared for our brave men and women in uniform who firmly adhere, as does she, to the core values of service before self, excellence and integrity first.
She attended Oregon State University as an undergraduate earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology as well as minors in Chemistry and Applied Medical Ethics. She was awarded the distinguished Waldo-Cummings Award for academic and leadership excellence as a junior much due to long library study sessions and even longer commitments to volunteering at the local hospital and free health clinics. She studied abroad at Lancaster University in Lancaster, England, UK attending a biological studies exchange program. While overseas she found an opportunity to embrace the locals even further while serving at the local soup kitchen in Lancaster. Living in England served as an excellent base camp to travel all over the UK and Europe as Dr. Kuhn is consumed by wanderlust and loves to explore regions and cultures.
After graduation she attended Vanderbilt University earning a Master or Science in Family Nurse Practitioning after first completing her Bachelor of Nursing. She worked as an orthopedic, neurological and pulmonary rehabilitation nurse before a long career in the emergency department as a nurse practitioner and manager. Furthermore, while attending Vanderbilt she was accepted to study abroad again in England, this time at the University of Brighton on the coast of England. She studied Managed Health Care… and traveled even farther and more often.
She has most enjoyed the holistic and integrative opportunities being a RN, NP and DO have awarded. Combined with the complexities and rigorous discipline of the military and the adaptability induced from travel she has a heart for humanitarian missions which drives her patient care whether caring for patients at home or overseas, in peace or during times of patient distress- she will be in the trenches with her patients listening, learning from them and fighting for their health with the utmost respect and dedication for their entire well-being.
Her greatest achievement is being a mother and the ability to walk patients, parents and children through journeys with compassion, dignity and the ethos of a fully committed warrior. She is honored and grateful to be of service.
